PSDC Fall Campout 2021
Friday October 1- Sunday October 3, 2021
Twin Streams Camp Ground Morris, PA
Are You Ready to see old friends and make new ones? Join us at the annual fall campout located at the Twin Streams Campground in Morris, PA. (Very close proximity to the breathtaking PA Grand Canyon!) Members and non-members of all levels of mushing experience are welcome! Train on a local service road with other teams, good footing, dirt road, out and back with someone posted at 1 mile mark to assist with turn around.
Planned for the weekend….
Fall dry-land dog and musher training (No motorized ATVs permitted. Cars/trucks are permitted to follow gigs, etc.) Helmet and eye protection use strongly encouraged.
Participants training dogs at least 2 miles may sign up to also have their dog’s information collected for a non-invasive thermo-regulation study being conducted by Ana Jimenez of Colgate University using thermo-photography of the dogs post exercise. Preliminary data about each dog will be collected prior to training (via phone or e-mail). Please contact the Organizer (Christina Gates) regarding dogs you will be using so that this data may be properly collected to streamline data collection on Saturday, October 2.

Time Permitting either Saturday or Sunday we may take a group (dive yourself) to the PA Grand Canyon for some Prime Leaf Peeping and a short hike, share your interest in this with Rich Stanaitis

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
Friday 10/1 – Registration
5 PM – Social (meet & greet) – Pavilion / Dining Hall area – bring your own beverages / snacks
6 PM – Board meeting (physical location / Zoom meeting info to be announced)
Saturday 10/2
7 – 8:30 AM Breakfast – Dining hall - Reservations suggested. Scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon, toast, coffee, and orange Juice. ($6 for Adults, $3 for Children, Under 3 Free)
All Day – Silent auction (Bidding closes at 8PM)
8:30 AM – Short Overview of Training Opportunities – by Rich at Pavilion / Dining Hall area
8:30 – Noon – Dog and Musher Training on your own. (Landrus Road is 10 miles long and is the 1st dirt road on the left, after turning right out of the campground. No motorized ATVs permitted. Cars/trucks are permitted to follow gigs, etc. Helmets are required for all wheeled training and eye protection is strongly encouraged. We will have a vehicle posted at the 1 mile on the training road to offer turn around for a 2 mile total distance (this is the minimum distance required for dogs to exercise to participate in the Thermo-regulation trial by Colgate University)
12:00 – 1:00 Lunch – On your own.
1:30 - 2 PM – Pooper Scooping Contest for the Kids! Playground area. Using Tootsie Rolls, shovels and buckets!
2:30 - 3 PM – Pavilion Area - Dog-themed Pumpkin Decorating! Decorating supplies will be provided. Pumpkin donations appreciated for this activity / Some will be available.
3-4:30 PM – Pavilion / Dining Hall area – General Membership Meeting – Due to COVID issues, please plan on wearing a mask indoors and if you can not social distance from others. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available.
5 - 6 PM – meet at Playground area – Costumed Halloween Parade / Trick or Treat through the Campground! Campers are encouraged to bring candy or biscuits for our 2 & 4-legged Trick or Treaters of All Ages!
6:00 PM – Pavilion / Dining Hall area - Community Dinner and Seminar on “Giving A good Sled Dog Seminar” and “Musher Etiquette When Dealing with Non-Mushers”
$15 adults, $8 Children, under 3 free (Includes Turkey Breast Gravy, Stuffing, Green Beans and Corn , Sweet Potatoes, and Cranberry Sauce, Pumpkin & Apple Pies) (Reservations required)
=> Bring a dish/ dessert to share as well as serving utensil.
=> Provide your own beverages.
=> Plates, & Utensils will be available.
=>All welcome to join covered dish dinner, but must have reservations for Turkey Dinner.
=> (After dinner, please take you dish / serving utensil, otherwise it will be thrown out.)
